Exploring who we are can be both creative and insightful. By combining art and self-reflection, this activity helps us see ourselves in a new light—literally.
Instructions:
Name Your Six Traits – Write down six character traits that describe you. These can be strengths, values, or qualities you want to celebrate (e.g., curious, patient, determined, kind, creative, resilient).
Trace Your Silhouette – Sit or stand so a light source (like a lamp or flashlight) casts your shadow onto a large piece of paper taped to the wall. Have a partner trace your shadow’s outline.
Create in Black & White – Using pencils, markers, charcoal, or black and white paint, fill in your silhouette to create a striking portrait.
Integrate Your Traits – Incorporate your six words into the portrait—write them along the outline, hide them in patterns, or weave them into the background design.
Reflect on Your Identity – Think about how these traits show up in your life and recovery journey.
Share or Display – Place your portrait somewhere visible as a daily reminder of your strengths.
Reflection Prompt:
How do the traits you chose shape the way you move through challenges? How does your portrait capture the essence of who you are today?
