Genre art is a term that describes photography, drawings, or paintings which portray
ordinary people or things. Often created in a realistic style, subjects for genre art are
taken from reality; people sitting, washing, cleaning, cooking, dressing, smoking, dining
out, or enjoying a vase of flowers.

Art Exercise:
Creating a positive, enriching environment for oneself is a big part of recovery.
Learning to look closely at the unseen beauty in your surroundings often leads
to personal growth and a greater enjoyment of life.

Let your eye travel about the room you’re in and choose an object that you can
portray as a work of art. Use paint, pencils, markers, or mixed media. Don’t be
concerned with accurate representation. Consider how famous artists created
masterpieces from their everyday surroundings. Don’t forget to sign your work
when you’re finished!
