We will be illustrating our scribble chase stories from a previous exercise.

Sand is tactile and elicits a visceral response to the nervous system. There is a relationship
between illustrating stories and visualizing positive outcomes in your recovery.
A cup will be filled with a small amount of colored play sand. Pour the sand onto your
paper in a tray with raised sides. Smooth out the sand with your hands into a thin layer.

The video can be used as inspiration on how to make forms in the sand using your hands,
fingers, and imagination.

The scribble chase story will be read aloud twice. Listen quietly with your eyes closed
during the first reading. On the second reading you will illustrate each part of the story in
the sand based on the images that came to your mind’s eye during the first reading.
Try to quiet your thoughts during this exercise. Take some deep breaths and be aware
of your body. There is no right or wrong in this art exercise. Whatever you visualize has
come from deep within you. Be confident and trust yourself and your creative ability to
render what you imagine.

Your mind possesses a powerful visionary force. This same technique can be used to
visualize solutions to problems related to many areas of life and recovery. Can you
visualize yourself in a job for instance? In a healthier relationship? Can you imagine
being outdoors and enjoying nature or time with loved ones? What are some other goals
that you have and what are some ways can you use visualization to manifest positive
outcomes?
