Watercolor painting can be both creative and calming. In this activity, the flowing colors and gentle rocking motion help you relax and enjoy the present moment.
Materials:
Watercolor paper (cut to fit inside a shallow plastic tray)
Plastic tray or bin
Watercolor paints (in tubes or pans)
Water in cups or small containers
Paintbrushes or droppers
Paper towels
Instructions:
Set Up Your Canvas – Place a sheet of watercolor paper flat inside your plastic tray.
Wet the Surface – Using a brush or clean water, lightly wet the entire paper so the paint will flow easily.
Add Color – Apply washes of watercolor to the wet paper. Use a brush, dropper, or even gently drip paint directly onto the surface.
Rock the Tray – Slowly tilt and rock the tray back and forth, letting the water carry the colors across the paper. Watch how they blend and shift.
Observe and Enjoy – Focus on the movement of the water and the way the colors merge. Let this process bring a sense of calm.
Dry and Reflect – Once you are happy with your design, carefully remove the paper and let it dry completely.
Reflection Prompt:
How did the motion of the water and the blending of the colors make you feel? Did this process help you slow down or focus?
