As an art exercise, we will be throwing pieces of yarn on a sheet spread on the floor, mimicking Jackson Pollock’s method of throwing paint. Pollock claims in the film that he doesn’t do anything by chance and that everything he does is skillfully orchestrated. He also makes the statement that he wishes to express his feelings, not illustrate them. I’d like the student’s to experience randomness and control at the same time, and as well, a safe, direct expression of their feelings using art.
